Constellations
23 x 15 inches, April 2012
Paper, glue, LED lights
Hand done paper-cut

Constellations draws a parallel between the stars in the sky and the city lights. When looking down upon a city, the stars appear to have fallen, captured by the people to light up their homes. The inside of the domes presents a viewer with an intimate look at a city scape, which mirrors the opposing stars. The cascading texture and varying depths of black paper evokes an expansive sky, which blocks out any other light to give the viewer an immersive experience. Like the symbols and characters that have been created from stars in the sky, Constellations compels the viewer to look at city lights in a new way, with myriad patterns, characters, and stories.
